Horticultural Heretic- Book Launch and Signing
October 4 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Join Hollister House Garden founder and President, George Schoellkopf, for a high-spirited horticultural adventure as he reads from his new book, Horticultural Heretic.
Inspired by classic English gardens but shaped by the challenges of northwest Connecticut, Hollister House Garden is the result of George’s creative vision- and his rebellious approach to gardening. In Horticultural Heretic, he shares his unconventional wisdom along with the tricks and methods that helped him break the rules and cultivate a truly original garden. The book is a mine of useful information on the art and craft of gardening, as gleaned from over forty years of hands-on experience.
Expect an engaging reading and the chance to ask questions about gardening, creativity, and breaking the rules. Books will be for sale and the author will be signing copies for attendees.
This is a free event, but pre-registration is required.

George Schoellkopf was born in 1942 in Dallas, Texas, where as a child, he battled against the harsh Texas climate to make his first garden. He was educated in Connecticut at the Hotchkiss School and at Yale University. He also holds a Masters Degree in Art History from Columbia University. Forty-five years ago George went on a trip to England to visit gardens, and returned home determined to make his own English garden at the 18th century farmhouse he had just purchased in Washington, Connecticut. The result is Hollister House Garden, now a nonprofit institution open to the public.
