SUMMARY:Watercolor Workshop: The Late Summer Palette
DESCRIPTION:Late summer brings a rich display of color to Hollister House Garden. Pollinator-friendly flowers erupt in bold shades of purple\, pink\, and gold\, mingling with foliage and fruit to create a complex\, shifting palette. In this full-day watercolor workshop\, participants will study color relationships directly in the garden\, then return to the barn to create a botanical color wheel. Watercolorist Betsy Rogers-Knox will guide students through color mixing\, transparent washes\, and techniques for capturing subtle shifts in hue and value. Instruction is tailored to all experience levels. \nThis workshop uses watercolor as a tool for close observation\, helping participants understand how color shapes mood\, rhythm\, and the experience of a garden. Each participant will leave with a painted botanical color wheel—a record of Hollister House Garden’s late-summer palette. \nBring a bag lunch. SUMMARY:Watercolor Journaling: Autumn's Oddities
DESCRIPTION:Autumn at Hollister House Garden reveals a fascinating world of berries\, hips\, pods\, seedheads\, and other seasonal forms that often go unnoticed. In this watercolor journaling workshop\, participants will begin in the garden\, observing and sketching these late-season details. We will then return to the barn for guided watercolor instruction\, with step-by-step demonstrations and individual support from botanical watercolorist Betsy Rogers-Knox. \nThis workshop uses watercolor journaling as a tool for close observation\, helping participants notice the textures\, shapes\, and small surprises that give the autumn garden its character. Students will leave with a colorful journal study that records an autumn day in the garden. All skill levels are welcome. \nBring a bag lunch. Water and snacks provided. \nRequired Materials: Watercolor Journal and a Micron 01 or 02 pen. You may bring your own or purchase a set for $35 when you register.
