Watercolor Workshop - Irises

On Saturday June 20, 2020

Event Time 10:00 am - 3:30 pm

Iris takes its name from the Greek word for a rainbow, which possibly refers to the wide variety of flower colors found among the many species. Using layers of light transparent washes with step-by-step demonstrations, learn to portray the many hues and diaphanous qualities of this much-loved flower.

This workshop is taught by Betsy Rogers-Knox. Betsy’s work has been shown widely in the US and was exhibited in London at the Royal Horticultural Botanical Art Show 2016  where she was awarded the prestigious Silver Gilt Award for her series of  six paintings titled The Lifecycle of the Milkweed and Monarch. Her work has been exhibited at the 11- 20th ASBA Annual International Exhibitions in NYC where she received the Eleanor Wunderlich Award in 2015 for her painting titled Dragon Arum.

Partners in Garden Design - A Workshop for Children and Their Parents

On Thursday June 25, 2020

Event Time 9:30 am - 12:00 pm

A workshop for children entering grades 2-4 and their parents

In this workshop, led by teacher/artist/gardener Holly Hall, parents are invited to partner with their child to learn how texture, geometry, movement, sound, and fragrance as well as the color and shape of flowers play into designing a garden. Following a short slide show exploring garden features such as paths, walls, water, vistas and lawns, we will tour Hollister House Garden together, discovering its hidden treasures and special magic weather permitting. Returning to the barn Holly will lead us in designing and creating our own special garden and in making a miniature model of it to take home.

All materials will be provided.
